Getting Started

note

Only Transform customers have access to the Transform App for viewing, querying, and governing metrics.

Introduction

Now that you've defined your metrics in code in MetricFlow - you can now consume them in the Transform App, which is a self-service BI-hub for consuming and building assets around your organization's metrics.

The key parts of the Transform application are Query, Boards, the Metric Page, and Homepage.

Signing up and Accessing the Transform App

When Transform is set up by an administrator of your organization, the administrator can choose to set approved email domains that can sign up without explicitly being invited. Administrators can also choose to explicitly invite people through our User Management page.

  • If signing up with an approved e-mail domain, users can access the Transform App and click the "Sign Up" tab directly. They can then either use Google authentication by clicking the "Sign in with Google" button, or they can set a password.
  • If signing up from an explicit invite, follow the links through the invite email and use either Google or set a password to authenticate.
  • The e-mails used during sign up must match either an approved domain or the e-mail that was directly invited.

Transform also supports signing in with Okta through an integration. Administrators must configure this, and this will set Okta as the preferred login method. If configured for an organization, users must log in with Okta.

Transform App Components

Homepage

The homepage is the landing page of Transform is meant to give you a birds-eye-view of the metrics you are subscribed to and any recent activity around them. You can view recent annotations, see the performance of metrics you are subscribed to, and subscribe to metrics that are suggested to you.

See the Homepage below and where to find all the key features:

Homepage

Query (Beta)

The Query page in Transform gives data consumers the ability to answer their own data questions flexibly, safely, and without any code. It contains menus to select metrics, dimensions to slice by, filters, and the ability for users to create visualizations from these selections. Most importantly, users can use Query to create Saved Queries that they can revisit or share with their organization.

Boards (Beta)

The Boards page in Transform allows you to watch and manage collections of metrics you care about for yourself, your team, and your company. With Boards, you can easily create and maintain dashboards in a way that is safer and more approachable for data consumers at your company.

Metric Page

The metric page contains all the information you need for one metric. Each metric defined in Transform has its own metric page. In addition to viewing a metric and it's trends, users can also view and post annotations as well as ask and answer questions about a metric to build knowledge and context. The metric page also includes key governance features like metric ownership, approval information, tier, definition, and lineage.

See all the key features of the Metric Page below and where to find them:

Subscriptions and Notifications

Subscriptions are the foundation of how data insights get delivered to internal customers. Users can subscribe to metrics they care about and get tailored notifications with context about the important changes to that metric. The changes users get notified about include key shifts to the metric value (which are defined by the metric owner) as well as annotations and questions on the metric.

See the image below on where to find notifications:

Notifications Panel

Opening the notifications pane will show you a list of all recent notifications:

Settings

The settings navigation allows users to edit their profiles, reset their passwords and perform other administrative actions. Users can also view available integrations via the Integrations page, view all metrics and data sources in their Transform model via the Model page, and explore Transform's GraphQL API using the API Explorer page.

Administrators can access global settings like user management, MQL server settings, organization security settings, and they can also connect integrations that require setup in Transform on the Integration page.
