Saved Queries
Introduction
After creating a query, users often want to revisit what they created because it is answering an important question for their day-to-day workflow (e.g., performance of a given metric). Our Saved Query feature on the Query page allows you to save a query to access it later, and it allows others in your organization to access it, too.
Saving a Query
Once you create a query that you want to revisit, you can use the top right-hand corner of the chart to hit "Save" and give it a name. The Saved Query will show up on the metric page of the metric(s) it relates to. You can always find a Saved Query on the Query page in the metric/query selection.
Query Visibility
When saving a query, you have the option to make it visible to only you or your organization. For queries that are visible to only you, if you explicitly share a link with someone, they will also have access to see it only through the link. You can change your query's visibility settings by accessing it on the Query page and using the Update button to change it.
Saved Query Access Matrix
User Type | Only You Visibility | Org. Visiblity |
---|---|---|
Query Creator | Always | Always |
Transform Org. Admin | Only through shared link | Always |
Regular User | Only through shared link | Always |
Jumping Off From a Saved Query
Transform users can always access other individuals' saved queries and start their exploration from there. If you are not the query creator, you will never have to worry about changing or overwriting the query, so it is a safe sandbox to play around in. If you aren't the creator of the query, and you make changes, you will only have the option to "Save as New".
Users that start off from a saved query always have the option of "Reverting to Original" using the menu option, which will go back to the original query they started from.
Updating and Deleting Saved Queries
Creators of saved queries can update their queries as long as they don't exist on another user's Boards. Creators of saved queries can delete saved queries if they don't exist on any Boards.
To make updates, access the saved query on the Query page, make changes to it, and select More Actionss --> Update Query. You can also always "Save as New" if you want a separate query and want to keep the original.
Viewers of a query can jump off and start making changes using another person's query, but they are not allowed to update it officially - they will only have the option to save a new query.
Users that start off from a saved query and make their own changes always have the option of "Reverting to Original" using the menu option which will go back to the original query.
Note: Organization administrators have access to delete, but not update Saved Queries.
